Laser Scanning & Control Survey – Linkwood Distillery

Client
Spey Projects Ltd
Delivery
April 2025
Project Type
Laser Scanning, Survey Control
Location
Elgin, Scotland

Scope

Spey Projects engaged us to conduct laser scanning and establish -survey control at their Linkwood Distillery in Elgin. The aim of the survey was to capture precise 3D spatial data for the design and installation of new pipework and provide recoverable survey control for future construction works. To minimise disruption to operations, our experienced surveyor was onsite for a single day to carry out the work.

Solution

The AOI comprised a small section of the distillery where new pipework was to be integrated. To achieve the required level of accuracy and detail, we utilised a Trimble X7 laser scanner to capture a high definition colourised point cloud. This allowed us to document the existing conditions with accuracy and provide a detailed 3D model. For survey control, we used a Trimble S7 total station to establish precise control points, ensuring the integrity of the dataset and alignment with the clients design framework. Details of this control was provided for future use in the construction phase of the project to ensure accuracy between as-built, design and construction phases. The deliverable for the project was a 3D DWG model providing the client with a robust foundation for design and planning decisions.
