Project Type
Weekly UAV Progress Surveys
Location
Portlethen, Aberdeen
Scope
Albyn Design and Build appointed us to undertake a programme of weekly UAV surveys at an industrial site in Portlethen. The objective was to capture consistent, high-quality aerial imagery throughout the duration of the construction phase.
Each survey involved flying the site to collect a full set of images, which were processed into a detailed georeferenced orthographic projection. This provided a single, accurate, up-to-date visual record of the entire development at regular intervals. The data was delivered in an accessible format as JPEG, allowing stakeholders to review progress remotely and maintain a clear overview of site activities.
Solution
The development involved the construction of a new warehouse facility, car park and yard. Over a seven-month period, our surveyor completed 23 UAV flights, capturing comprehensive datasets that documented each stage of the build. By maintaining the same surveyor throughout the project, we ensured continuity in data capture, flight planning, and positioning, which resulted in highly consistent outputs week after week.
The collected imagery was processed into high-resolution, enabling clear visibility of site changes, material stockpiles, access routes and completed works. These outputs were shared with the client and end user, providing a comprehensive overview of the projects progress.
Benefits
The use of regular UAV surveys provided a range of practical advantages for the client.
- Enhanced project visibility
- Efficient, rapid data capture of construction progress at all stages
- No disruption to operations
- Improved consistency and reliability
- Better communication and reporting
- Permanent project record

“We were delighted with the quality of imagery Adaptive Surveys provided us with throughout the duration of the contract. Their weekly visits to site, even during inclement weather, were a valuable tool and helped our client monitor progress easily. We would have no hesitation in recommending them to others and look forward to working with them again in the future”
