Project Type
Measured Building Survey, Laser Scanning
Location
Aberfeldy, Scotland

Scope

We were engaged by Taymouth Castle Club to undertake a Measured Building Survey of the historic Taymouth Castle in Aberfeldy, Scotland. The client required an accurate digital representation of the building for future restoration and design planning. Given the complexity and scale of the structure, we utilised dynamic laser scanning technology to ensure precision. Two experienced surveyors were deployed onsite for several days to capture comprehensive spatial data, which was subsequently referenced to the OS Coordination System for national accuracy and compatibility.

Solution

Our survey team worked methodically throughout the site, using an X7 laser scanner. We captured millions of data points to generate a highly detailed point cloud of the building's interior and exterior. To complement the terrestrial scanning, we also deployed a drone to take high-resolution aerial imagery of the roof and upper architectural features, ensuring no detail was overlooked.

Once offsite, our team processed the data producing a LOD 300 Revit Model, 2D DWG floor plans, elevations and sections as well as an unstructured point cloud in .RCP format enabling seamless integration with the clients existing software.
