Laser Utility Survey – Macallan Distillery 

Our team used a combination of advanced methodologies starting with an EML survey. Where accessible, TX10 transmitter equipment was clamped onto service cables to induce a detectable signal. The routes of these services were traced using ED8200 receivers, providing an initial map of the underground infrastructure. Following this, our surveyors deployed GPR techniques to confirm the depths and position of the pipe and identify any additional services that may have been missed by the EML. This approach minimised the risk of oversight and provided a comprehensive overview of the pipe.

The pipe traced was a stainless steel steam pipe which ran from the boiler room to an offsite power station, it had been initially exposed with trial pits but this did not determine the location of the pipe. The client was also concerned about the potential internal collapse of a concrete wall surrounding an underground tank but the GPR survey data collected did not support that.

All findings were marked using PAS 128 colour coding  standards. Finally, all spray-painted markings from the manhole, EML, and GPR surveys were captured using GNSS and Total Station techniques, ensuring accurate geospatial data for integration into the final utility map.
