Project Type
Laser Scanning and Drone Survey
Location
Westhill, Aberdeenshire

Scope

We were commissioned by Halliday Fraser Munro to carry out a measured building survey of a retail unit within the Westhill Shopping Centre, currently occupied by Marks & Spencer. The purpose of the survey was to produce an accurate and detailed 3D Revit model of the stores interior and exterior. To complement this, we were also tasked with conducting a UAV survey of the roof. This dual approach ensured that both internal spatial data and external roof conditions were captured, providing a complete dataset for future planning.

Solution

To maximise efficiency (and minimise disruption) our surveyor used an RS10 handheld laser scanner. Unlike traditional static scanning methods, the RS10 allows for continuous data capture during walkthroughs, significantly reducing time on site whilst maintaining high accuracy.

For the roof survey, we deployed a Mini 4 drone equipped with high-resolution imaging capabilities. This enabled us to capture detailed aerial data of the roof, including areas that are typically difficult or hazardous to access without scaffolding or elevated platforms. The combination of terrestrial and aerial scanning provided a seamless integration of data for a holistic building model.

Benefits

The resulting 3D Revit model offers a precise and visually rich representation of the building, streamlining decision-making for architects, engineers, and planners.
