Scope

We were instructed by Goodson Associates to carry out a PAS 128 utility survey in Stratton, near Inverness. The survey covered a large site, requiring two experienced surveyors to ensure efficiency, safety and accuracy. The client requested a comprehensive utility survey report as well as a 2D DWG drawing, with the primary objective of accurately locating a high-voltage (HV) cable and a water main. The identification of these utilities were critical to the clients development plans to reduce risk and avoid delays during construction.

Solution

To achieve the required level of precision, our team used a combination of EML and GPR techniques to trace the utilities. This approach allowed us validate findings with the GPR locating services difficult to trace using EML methods to Quality Level A. Both the HV cable and water main were identified, located and mapped in accordance with PAS 128 standards, providing the client with reliable data for informed decision making. To further confirm the locations of the services, our team subsequently organised pot holing in six locations along the HV cable and water main.
